Autobiography of Sofia Ivanova

My birth name is Sofia Halina Ivanova. I was born on the 12th April 1983. I am Russian and I am from a place called Kirov. I am from a poor family my mother is called Svetlana and she is a housewife. My father is called Vladimir and he is a factory worker. I have four brothers my two younger brothers are called Sergey who is 15 years old and Dmitri who is 20 years old. My two older brothers are called Egor who is 27 years old and Ivan who is 29 years old.
I came over to Britain in 1999, with my older brother Egor, when I was 16 years old, to experience a better life. When we first came to England, we struggled a lot with the language. The lifestyle and the people were completely different to our home country. We stayed in London a place called Enfield, which I still live now. So to improve my education, which was pretty poor at the time I went to college to study English and at the time I was also interested in journalism so I studied that too. I studied for three years at college and then I got a place a university doing journalism, which I was really pleased about.
My brother at this point became really jealous of me because I was doing well and the best he could do was work in a local café. Which was through no fault of his own he felt like he had a wasted journey to London from Russia. He did get a place at college but he never turned up on time he would not go to college for weeks resulting in him being kicked out. The atmosphere between us deteriorated and he decided to go back to Russia to live with my family that was the last I had heard from him at that point.
After he left everything was going well for me at university, it was hard for me to start with, and then it got easier for me. I made new friends and I even met a guy on my course called Richard. It got serious by the end of the second year and by the third year we moved in together. It was a world wind romance. When summer came at the end of the third year. Richard and me went back to my home country Russia to meet my family, which I was really nervous about. I knew at this point that I really loved him and I wanted him to meet my family. What I was most worried about was how Egor was going to take it since I hadn’t spoke to him for 3 years.
When we got to Russia my family really took to Richard they were really pleased for me and me Egor sorted our differences out. We stayed for 2 weeks and then went back to London. After the trip I made sure that I kept in regular contact with my family and went back regularly with Richard.
"Who is it?" part 2
For this part of the brief we were asked to swap photos with a person from our group i swapped with Anthony. Then i was asked to write another 500 word piece on my new photo.
Autobiography of John Howard

John Howard was born on the 7th August in 1952 he is entrepreneur in a car business. He was born into a middle class family in Kensington, London. He was raised by his mother and father in a 5 bed roomed house, at the time he also lived with his grandparents and his aunt. Sadly his mother died in back in 2000 from cancer aged 68. His father is still living in Kensington. He was an only child and he was educated in a private school close to his home.
His parents were very strict towards john when he was a child. He was constantly doing school work. He had a lack of social life and didn’t have many friends. He said ‘that he felt isolated in his own home’. The only person he was closest to and called his best friend was his aunt; he spoke to her about everything, because he felt he couldn’t do that with his mother. So when she passed away when he was just 17, he spiralled out of control he ran away from home many times he got in trouble with the law which was really out of character for him. His parents felt that the only way that john would listen to them and to stop him doing bad things was to physically abuse him.
When he turned 18, he couldn’t cope with his parents controlling ways and the abuse so he left home for good. While his parents were at work one day, and he had a day off university he left, them a note telling them why he had left and telling them how he didn’t want to be there anymore.
He ended up staying with one of the few friends he had. He went to the same private school and got into the same university as him he was called Joshua. When they both graduated 3 years later they both went there separate ways Joshua moved in with girlfriend and John moved into his own flat. John got a job temporary working in a car lot down the road from where he lived, until the right job came along.
Four months into his job he was feeling quite lonely and he decided it was the right time to search for his parents, which he hadn’t seen for over three years. After months of looking, a few weeks before his 22nd birthday he got an address as to where they lived. To his surprise, they still lived at the same house that he grew up in. The next morning he called into work and asked for the day off so that he could travel down to see his parents.
While travelling down by train, all the thoughts of his childhood came flooding back to him. He nearly turned back, but then he thought he had to face them sooner or later. When he reached his parents house his father answered the door there was this awkward silence. A few minutes later his mother came to the door and all he could remember were the tears streaming down her face. John didn’t know what to do. They all went inside and sorted out all there differences and decide to build on a relationship.
The following day he went back to work as normal. A few years down the line he landed a job as a boss at a top car firm and to the current day he has made millions he still lives in London with a wife and three children, his father comes down to visit regularly. Their relationship has come long way since they had got back in contact. John feels now his life is complete apart from the loss of his mother he is happy that his family are all getting on.
"Who is it?" part 3 hybrid
For this part me and Anthony had to decided how we were going to put both out pieces of writing together. In the end we decided to go with Anthony story about John Kaufmann and added a few parts of my piece on the same photo.
John William Kaufman was born in Kirkcaldy, Fife, on 7th August 1952 to his parents William, a local GP and Breege, a Gynacologist at Edinburgh Royal Hospital. Kirkcaldy is an affluent and stunning village. The well heeled Kaufman’s lived on what was described as doctors row, a small exclusive crescent set in four acres of conservation green belt situated 16 miles north of the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh.
Although John was often referred to as socially independent and some what detached in his primary school days John's academic ability was out standing and it was obvious and noted that from a very early age he was too achieve much in his life.
For this reason he received local government funding to attend the exclusive Ramplington modern, a feeder school in Belgrave, Oxford for Oxford University, of which John was amongst one of its youngest ever students at the age of 17 years and 2 days.
John excelled although he suffered from asthma and missed his family he went on to achieve a glowing report from his teacher and confidante Professor James Boyd head of History and Economics.
“John is the most talented student of his generation, he has an outstanding ability to out wit me and I often wonder who is the teacher and who is the pupil.”
He described John as, honourable, reliable and a damn decent chap.
John graduated with a Phd in 1975 at the age of 27. Later that year he joined the British foreign office and was soon too be posted to the troubled area of Beirut as attaché to the then British ambassador Herbert Smart-Henshall an ex military general well versed in middle eastern politics and a well respected figure in the muslim world.
It was here John was introduced to the local mayors daughter a beautiful, educated and intelligent lady three years his junior, Safwana Hasheed. They fell in love and married 12 months later and as Safwana fell pregnant John was presented with the news that he was too be given the position of the British ambassador to Iran in June 1978.
He was well respected in Tehran and held good diplomatic relations with the pre Islamic revolution Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi as he sort to help educate and build new universities for Iran’s future generations with British money but not cultural influence.
John Kaufman was to show his true qualities after the militant revolution on 6th Jan 1979 with his refusal to return back to Britain. This was to prove vital during the taking of 53 American hostages who where held from 4th November 1979 until 20th January 1981 a total of 444 days.
After the failure to rescue the hostages in operation “Eagle Claw” 24th April 1981 Kaufman was called upon by the American president Ronald Reegan to use his diplomatic influence in a desperate attempt to appease the American public.
Kaufman agreed to help risking his life on several occasions to successfully arrange the release of all 53 hostages unharmed.
On 25th June 1981 John was honoured at The White House by the then president of the United States of America, Jimmy Carter, with the countries highest medal of honour “The Presidential Medal Of Honour.”
Sir John Kaufman, (he was Knighted in July 1983) return to England and now lives a peaceful reclusive family life in rural Berkshire. He is still married to Safwana with whom they had two children William and Sasha.
"Who is it?" part 4
Using the hybrid we were asked to create a poster including one image (the photo) the name and some information from the hybrid.
This is our first draft
For our first draft we made it basic and what we realised after making this was the fact we couldn't have another image in the poster apart from the person who we were talking about so we had to figure a way to remove the bottom image.
Second draft
Here we have got rid of the bottom image and replaced it with the text that you get off the bottom of a passport which i thought looked really good. We also thought it would be good to scan in the envelope in which we received the photo in to give the poster an interesting look.
This was our final piece we had a few problems with the type. In the end we used two different typefaces to separate the good things that he achieved in his life and we made thepointsize bigger for the great experiences he had. I think the outcome looked good.
